neverland ranchIt's been a dramatic month for the Jackson family.
And now, reports from a local Santa Ynez news station are saying that Neverland Ranch—Michael's famed retreat/zoo/theme park—had a structure fire Tuesday.
Santa Barbara County Fire responded to the fire, but when crews arrived to the scene they said the flames were already tamed.
No word on which part of the ranch caught fire, or if any damage was done.
But according to TMZ, a grease-filled barbeque is to blame for the blaze.
During a big party on the grounds, staff lit the BBQ to get the coals hot but a grease build-up on the system ignited the hood system. After a bit of panic and three fire trucks later, the party was reportedly cancelled

Why Demand For Gold Plummeted 38% In The World's Largest Gold Market

India's demand for gold jewelry fell 30 percent in the second quarter from a year ago, according to a new report by the World Gold Council.
And this is after gold jewelry demand was down 19 percent in the first quarter, and down 44 percent in the fourth quarter of last year.
Gold jewelry demand which declined to 124.8 tonnes, is the largest way in which Indians invest in gold. And was down 14 percent from the five-year average.
Demand for total bar and coin investment was down 51 percent, and overall consumer demand was down 38 percent. The weakness in the rupee, poor monsoons, the government moves to curb gold imports, and the overall economic slowdown factored into the decline in demand for gold. From the WGC:
"A number of factors combined to create an un supportive environment for gold jewelry demand in India during the quarter. Slowing GDP growth; record high local gold prices caused by currency fluctuations; stubborn domestic inflation; high interest rates; and fears of a poor monsoon season, all contributed to the year-on-year fall in demand.
The price impact was the most prominent of these, with a wave of profit-taking prompted by the move in the gold price above Rs. 29,000, per 10 gram. The fluctuations in the exchange rate over the course of the quarter added to consumers' reluctance to buy jewelry as this fed through to gold price volatility."

Float cabin
Years ago, Wayne and Margy Lutz paid $30,000 for a tiny float cabin in the wilds of British Columbia.
"It cost about the same as taking a fancy cruise," says Margy, who figured the investment would offer a stress-free retirement compared to their home in LA.
She was right: The couple have lived off-grid for years, and relish every moment spent on their scenic but modest-sized property.
"Living in a 675 square foot cabin with water access only is a bit unique," she told Fair Companies in a video, but for me and Wayne it's perfect."
Back then, loggers and fishermen used them as makeshift homes. The Lutz's bought the home in 2001 after

The secret to Samsung’s massive success: Attack every corner of your home

Samsung Revenue Growth 2012
Samsung (005930) has seen tremendous success in recent history, and 2012 has been nothing short of stellar for the consumer electronics vendor so far. The company’s sales hit $42.2 billion in the second quarter this year, topping rival Apple (AAPLby a healthy margin, and its profit of $4.6 billion was up nearly 50% year-over-year. So how does Samsung do it? While companies like Apple use a somewhat narrow focus to their advantage, Samsung takes a different approach: Sell everything.
Samsung has found a niche in attacking every niche it can, Fortune contributor Don Reisinger explains, while the company’s biggest rivals rose to the top much differently. Apple became one of the most successful companies in history by taking control of the end-to-end mobile device experience and building premium smartphones and tablets. Microsoft built platforms for businesses and Google focused on user data.
South Korea-based Samsung used a much different approach. The company’s aim is to attack every inch of consumers’ homes, launching waves of new phones, tablets, televisions, washing machines, cameras, driers, refrigerators, computers and more each year. And somehow, despite the lack of laser-like focus exhibited by the company’s chief rivals, Samsung does it all very well.
“By the end of 2011, Samsung was the world’s top TV maker, earning 22.5% market share,” Reisinger wrote. ”In the display monitor market, it was first with 15.1% share. Samsung also owns some 13.5% of the worldwide refrigerator market. And in washing machines, its market share has grown from 7% in 2009 to 9.2% last year. Even in laptops, where giants like HP (HPQ) and Dell (DELL) dwarf it, Samsung has watched its market share nearly double to 6.3% in just a few years.”

iPad mini details all but confirmed as launch nears

iPad Mini Details Leaked
9to5Mac today got hold of some major details of Apple’s (AAPL) long-rumored iPad mini on Tuesday. The website published that the device will “‘look like a big iPod touch’ with smaller bezels along the sides” and “separate volume buttons rather than a ‘rocker’ and a mic on the back.” 9to5Mac said that its report is backed up by Daring Fireball’s John Gruber, who received similar details about the iPad mini, though hasn’t published about it yet.
9to5Mac writes that the iPad mini’s design gives it “a similar ‘purse-able,’ ‘big pocket-able’ form factor except with a much larger 4:3 display.” The website also says that the “lack of a bezel on the sides will make it easier to hold.”

iOS and Android are stomping on Sony and Nintendo’s portable game businesses

Android, iOS Dominate Mobile Gaming
Why spend money on a mobile gaming platform when you can play lots of high-quality games on your tablet? That’s the reality that portable game console manufacturers Sony (SNE) and Nintendo (NTDOY) have to deal with as Android and iOS tablets have become powerful enough to host some high-quality games such as “Infinity Blade.”
As Fortune reports, the latest research from Flurry Analytics shows that Android and iOS devices last year accounted for 58% of all mobile gaming revenues in the United States while the Sony PlayStation Vita and the Nintendo 3DS accounted for just 36% of mobile gaming revenue in the U.S. For some perspective, consider that back in 2009 Nintendo alone accounted for 70% of all mobile U.S. gaming revenue.
Fortune also quotes Cowen analyst Doug Creutz, who says that smartphones and tablets have been instrumental in leading to growth of the mobile gaming industry.
